Practice makes perfect when it comes to ballet. Make and install a ballet barre for dance practice at home. A homespun ballet barre is inexpensive and easy to install, as long as you can handle a drill. Install a ballet barre in your home, garage or dance studio.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two-inch diameter wooden dowel
  • Three closet bar brackets
  • Saw
  • Level
  • Wall anchors or a stud finder
  • Drill
  • Screws
  1. Step 1

Cut the wooden dowel down to three feet. Make the dowel longer or shorter depending on your space and needs. Sand the ends of the dowel until there are no rough edges.

  2. Step 2

Mark three spots on the wall, 16 inches apart, where the top of the barre will be. Make the markings 36 inches from the ground. Check the wall marks with a level.

  3. Step 3

Hold each bracket up on the wall, making sure the top is level with the 36-inch mark. Use a pencil to mark the spots where the screws will be inserted.

  4. Step 4

Install wall anchors in each of the spots where the screws will hold the brackets on the wall. Skip this step if you plan to drill directly into wall studs.

  5. Step 5

Secure each of the wall brackets to the wall with the screws. Tighten the screws as much as possible to have a sturdy ballet barre.

  6. Step 6

Lay the wooden dowel across the three brackets. Secure the bar to the brackets by inserting a screw in the bottom part of each hook and screwing the barre to the brackets.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the ballet barre for balance and support purposes only. Do not allow children to hang from or pull on the barre.
