Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Identify your target market. Every product and brand will have a defined group of potential customers. For example, if your product line includes automobile shocks and struts, think about who purchases these types of products and how they would use them.
Step2
Create an image that will appeal to your target market's demographic. Consider the values this group has and how this product will fit their lives. Focus the image for your brand around that ideal.
Step3
Invent a message to go along with the image. For example, if your product is fun and discretionary, as opposed to a staple, create a message that reflects this. If your product involves a life saving medical technology, know that fun and frivolous is not an appropriate message for your brand.
Step4
Gather feedback on your potential brand. Test your brand's image and message on prospective and non-prospective buyers. This is the best way to find any inconsistencies or missed steps that will prevent a successful brand.
Step5
Send your brand out to the masses. Know what avenues of advertising your target market uses. Sometimes giving out free samples and building a grassroots fan base is a great step for a brand that reflects that thinking. Whereas some brands are more successful when they are launched on a massive scale, such as television advertising.
