Finding a summer job is more competitive than ever. Many skilled people from high school and college students to teachers on summer break are looking for part-time work. Maximize the chances of landing a summer job by making the right moves during the search.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put in a lot of applications. On average, a person applies at 10 to 12 places before finding a part-time position. Applying at many businesses will only increase chances of getting a call back for an interview.

  2. Step 2

Follow-up after putting in applications. Making the next move will most often result in an interview since it shows your interest and initiative. Put on a decent outfit and go to the place of business at a slow time and ask for the manager, or call and express your interest in working for the company, and if the manager or personnel director has any questions about your work history or resume.

  3. Step 3

Have a flexible schedule. Managers won't bother with workers that can only work certain times a week. Employers may accommodate school or other job schedules, but nothing else justifies time spent not working.

  4. Step 4

Apply for seasonal jobs at companies that hire many workers at once. For example, consider applying at swimming pools, amusement parks, concession stands and summer camps.

  5. Step 5

Look for jobs in industries that boom in the summer seasons. These industries include tourism, so look for jobs at hotels and restaurants. Construction business speeds up greatly in the summer. Landscaping and farming peak in the summer, so look for work mowing lawns or picking corn.
