With the growing popularity of the green movement, we have many opportunities to go green. People tend to go green in their homes and offices. But you can also go green in your boat. You can have a positive impact on the environment and the waterways by going green in several ways. These tips will help you out.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Update your engine to help your boat go green. Choose a four-stroke engine over a two-stroke. Better yet, try one of the new hybrid engines.

  2. Step 2

Hire green cleaners to clean your hull. Companies like SodaBlast Systems use eco-friendly hull cleaning systems. For the areas you clean yourself, use non-toxic cleaners.

  3. Step 3

Dispose of hazardous substances like oil and paint properly. Keep rags on board to mop up any spills. Then, dispose of the rags and any used cans and filters at a proper disposal facility.

  4. Step 4

Paint your boat with non-toxic paints. Typical anti-fouling paints used on boats leach toxins into the water. Go green by using regular paint covered in bottom wax. You can also have a professional apply a SealCoat system, using epoxy resin to seal the boat.
