Step 1
Buy eco-friendly school and office products. Look for items made of recycled materials, such as pencils made from recycled newspapers. You'll find a range of green products on the market today for school use like recycled bags and paper.
-
Step 2
Decorate for fall with natural items rather than buying new ones. Use leaves, branches and fall crops like pumpkins to decorate. Buying new Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations each year adds to the amount of goods that will be tossed out into landfills at some point. Look in consignment shops for Halloween costumes as well.
-
Step 3
Compost fallen leaves, organic materials from gutters and carved pumpkins. You'll keep these items out of the garbage and get material to use on your lawn or garden next spring. Compost is a more natural choice for mulches and fertilizers as well.
-
Step 4
Clean and store summer equipment before it becomes damaged in the snow and cold. Keeping equipment in better shape helps it to last longer, which will keep it out of the landfill. Garden tools, kids' outdoor toys and screens can often all be stored away from the winter elements.
-
Step 5
Walk with your kids to school. If you live close enough, make a daily habit of walking to school rather than using the car. You can also talk to school officials about having school buses turn off their engines while they are waiting for the children to load.

on 9/30/2008 I suppose that since it is fall, these ideas are things that some people might find helpful right now. But the fact of the matter is, that everything the author mentioned, is an example of what every single one of us should be doing in each and every season, in every single way we can possibly think of! Yet, I find that way too many people just refuse to change the way they live, even though it is hardly any more effort to do things to help the environment. In fact, the only effort required is to change the wasteful habits that we grew up with, before recycling was an option or available. But I see people that I really care about and recognize to be good, intelligent people, who just stuff all of their waste into the same container until it overflows. But not only that, then they continue to do the same thing into plastic trash bags. They have 1 garbage can, 1 recycling can, and one gree
