One of the best ways to celebrate the spirit of Halloween is by creating scary and spooky desserts. Get your little ghosts and goblins into the spirit the week leading up to Halloween by serving a different scary dessert each night. Creep on a platter is also sometimes called monster, or head, on a platter.

From Quick Guide: Halloween Food
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ice cream
  • Chocolate cookies
  • Whipped cream
  • Candy
  1. Step 1

Set the ice cream, in the flavor of your choice, on the counter for 15 to 20 minutes to allow it to soften. After the ice cream has softened, scoop it into a medium sized mixing bowl. Apply light pressure on the top of the ice cream after it is in bowl using the back of your spoon. This causes the ice cream to form to the shape of the bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it back in the freezer for 30 minutes to harden it.

  2. Step 2

Put chocolate cookies into a plastic bag and use a wooden mallet to crush them into crumbs. Leave two cookies whole to be used as eyes.

  3. Step 3

Remove the bowl of ice cream from the freezer and set it in a larger bowl filled with warm water. Let it sit in the warm water for 10 to 15 seconds, then dry off the bottom of the bowl and invert it to put your creep onto a platter.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle the cookie crumbs over the ice cream and then front over top of the cookie crumbs using vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

  5. Step 5

Use candy, such as gum drops, candy corn, M&Ms and black licorice to make a scary face on your creep. If you prefer you can make your face using cookies or fruit. To make your face using fruit try using grapes for the eyes and a pear sliced in half for a nose. Be sure to remove the core from the pear first.

  6. Step 6

Cover your creep with two layers of plastic wrap and store him in the freezer until ready to serve. Creep on a platter can be made 2 or 3 days in advance if you wish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although creep on a platter is usually made with ice cream, if you prefer a dessert that isn't as cold, you can substitute the ice cream for cake. Bake your cake in an oven safe bowl or casserole dish and grease the dish well so that you can easily invert it after it cools.
  • For a scarier version of creep on a platter, put a knife sticking out of the creep's head and drizzle some raspberry or strawberry sauce near the would to look like blood.
  • Coconut browned in a skillet works well if you want to create facial hair on your Halloween creep.
  • You can also make individual Halloween creeps and put several on the platter. To do this with ice cream, form the ice cream into small pudding or dessert bowls instead of one mixing bowl. If making your creeps with cake instead of ice cream, try using cupcakes.
