Things You'll Need:
- Reusable lunch packs
- Reusable ice packs
- Reuasbale water bottles
- Reusable food containers, plates and silverware
- Fabric napkins and tablecloth or placemats
- Compost/Vermicompost bin
-
Step 1
Use reusable lunch packs. These can me made of metal or fabric. It is good to have a few. One for large gatherings, and a couple of smaller packs.
-
Step 2
Use reusable ice packs. Why purchase ice when you can make it yourself?
-
Step 3
Use reusable water bottles that will not leach. It is believed that water bottles made from plastic will soon begin to leach.
-
Step 4
Use reusable containers to pack your food in. Even if you reuse plastic baggies and aluminum foil, they will eventually end up in landfills. The goal here is to find containers that will not end up in a landfill, and will not leach toxins into your food.
-
Step 5
Use reusable, recycled/able plates and silverware. They can be reused many, many times before you recycle them.
-
Step 6
Invest on some cloth napkins. You can make your own from leftover material, or purchase them. They will not take up much space in the wash, so they will not cost much to keep clean.
-
Step 7
A fabric table cloth or some cloth place mats would be another great investment. You can make your own from leftover material.
-
Step 8
Find reusable containers for condiments as well. It is very important not to keep purchasing those tiny packets of such things as ketchup and salt.
-
Step 9
Food scraps can be brought home and put into compost piles or vermicomposting bins. Doing this will prevent the foods from going into a landfill somewhere, and it will help to provide your garden with good soil.
