Greening your business is a very important venture, both to the environment and to your customers. Greening is the way to go and, if you have begun this process, you can use it to help your business along. Use this information in your marketing and advertising efforts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Online access
  • Materials to reuse
  1. Step 1

Reuse every piece of paper, and envelope, that you come across. Envelopes can also be used for shopping lists, and will hold coupons for business expenses, as well as receipts after purchases have been made. When you get them home, open them all the way and use them for notes. When you have used both sides of a piece of paper or an envelope, it can be shredded and used as package filler.

  2. Step 2

Reuse envelopes and boxes that you receive through the mail for shipping. You can even reuse the filler.

  3. Step 3

Reduce your materials that your business uses. Print on both sides of the paper. Use small receipt books rather than print full page receipts for you and your customers. They use less paper in the long run. You could also send them an email copy for their records.

  4. Step 4

Reuse whatever you can. Boxes can organize drawers/shelves if you cut them down to size. I reuse all tacs, rubber bands, paper clips, and other office supplies. Also, when someone sends or gives me something with these items attached, I reuse them as well.

  5. Step 5

Recycle, whatever you can. Paper, even newspaper, can be recycled. Call your local recycling center to see what they accept. There are also places that you can locate online that will recycle used cartridges, CD’s and more. Do a simple search to find out who is doing this. They usually pay for you to ship the items to them.

  6. Step 6

Turn your computer off when you wont be using it for a while.

  7. Step 7

CFL lights are less expensive to run, and better for the environment when disposed of correctly. Turn off lights unless you absolutely need them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy office needs in bulk only when it will provide you with less packaging to dispose of.
  • Can you buy things used? Can you buy things made in your town, state, or country?
  • It is very important to dispose of CFL light bulbs and computers in the proper manner. Otherwise, you are doing harm to our Earth.
