Instructions

  1. How to Make Necklaces out of Pasta

    • 1

Cut the string in pieces so that they fit loosely around the child's neck. Cut one for each child in the group. Make sure the string is cut long enough that the child can slip the necklace off over their heads once the ends are tied together.

    • 2

Give the child or children some pasta to decorate. Markers usually work best. You can use any type of pasta that has holes, but rigatoni works the best for this project. They can color the pasta whatever color or design they would like. Encourage creativity in this stage.

    • 3

Give each child the string that was cut for them once the pasta has been decorated. Show the child how to thread the string or rope through the pasta, so that the pasta becomes like beads on a necklace. Leave enough room on the ends of the string so that you can tie a knot at the ends to complete the necklace.

    • 4

Tie or have the child tie a knot with the ends of the string so that it is secured. Make sure the knots are tight so they do not come out. This is your completed pasta necklace! The child can then slip the necklace over their heads to show off their beautiful work.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use paint on the pasta. The color tends to last a little longer. This just may require some extra clean up.

  • You can also use clear string or fishing wire to make the pasta and colors stand out.

  • If you are using paint, make sure to buy paint that is non-toxic, especially if you are working with small children. Finger paints are the easiest to use and are non-toxic.
