SIDS or Sudden Infant Death is characterized when a baby usually under the age of 6 months dies suddenly without cause. There are a few easy measures to take to help prevent SIDS.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
     

    Place your baby to sleep on his/her back. Place your baby on a firm mattress. Do not let your baby nap on cushions, pillows or couches. Remove any toys, loose blankets and bumpers from the crib.

  2. Step 2
     

    Keep your baby away from smokers. Second hand smoke increases the risk of SIDS.

  3. Step 3
     

    Don't let your baby overheat when he/she sleeps. The baby's room should be around 72 degree's. Don't overdress your child for bed.

  4. Step 4

  5. Step 5
     

    Offer baby a pacifier. Studies have shown that giving a baby a pacifier during the night time dramastically reduces SIDS. The researchers aren't sure of the exact reason why it works but think it reminds the babies to breathe at night.

Tips & Warnings
  • No second hand smoke.
  • Back sleeping.
  • Remove pillows, toys, loose blankets from crib.
  • Sleep on a firm mattress.
  • Don't overheat the baby.
  • Practice safe co-sleeping.
  • Offer the baby a pacifier.
