There's nothing like the taste of fresh, warm, gooey, chocolate chip cookies from the oven. This recipe was found online - "The Real, The Original, The Authentic Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe". Instead of Nestle chocolate chips, Aldi brand chips were used.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two mixing bowls (one can be your mixer bowl if you're using a mixer like Kitchen Aid)
  • 2 and one-quarter cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-teaspoon baking soda
  • 1-teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks, ½ pound butter, softened)
  • Three-quarters cup granulated (white) sugar
  • Three-quarters cup packed brown sugar
  • 1-teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups Aldi brand chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  1. Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Step 2

In a bowl, (not your mixer bowl), combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Step 3

In your mixer bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla.

  4. Step 4

Once that is well blended, (it will appear creamy), add the eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each addition.

  5. Step 5

Once the eggs are mixed in, gradually add the flour mixture. Your batter will be somewhat thick, but not stiff.

  6. Step 6

By hand, (I like to use a large wooden spoon), fold in the chocolate chips until they are well distributed throughout the batter.

  7. Step 7

Drop the chocolate chip cookies by rounded tablespoon onto an ungreased baking sheet. (I must say I do grease my cookie sheets slightly. Otherwise the cookies come off broken.)

  8. Step 8

Bake the chocolate chip cookies in the oven at 375 degrees for 9 to 11 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

  9. Step 9

Let stand for 2 minutes, then remove the cookies to a wire rack, and allow them to cool completely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Parchment paper works well in place of cooking spray to cover your cookie sheets. Parchment paper can be found at your local grocery store in the same aisle as aluminum foil, plastic wrap and sandwich bags.
  • Every oven is different. Set your timer for 9 minutes to begin and see how the cookies are doing. Adjust your time accordingly.
  • Would you prefer a chocolate chip cookie PAN variety? Prepare the dough as directed above. Spread the batter into a greased 15"x10" jellyroll pan. Bake in a preheated 375-degree (Fahrenheit) oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in the pan on a raised wire rack.
  • Are you at a HIGH ALTITUDE? (greater than 5,200 feet)? Make sure to increase your flour amount to 2 ½ cups. Add 2 teaspoonfuls of water with the flour. Reduce both your granulated sugar and your brown sugar amounts to 2/3 cup each. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. For drop cookies, bake for 8 to 10 minutes. For the Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip pan variety, bake for 17 to 19 minutes.
  • We tried the recipe the first time with Nestle chocolate chips and then one time with the chocolate chips from Aldi's. We actually prefer the latter, so that's what we use.
  • I leave out the nuts because I have encountered so many children and adults alike who are allergic to nuts.
