How to Understand and Interpret Body Language Signals

Body language is the nonverbal communication that goes on in every personal encounter with another human being. It consists of the gestures, poses, movements, and physical expressions that a person uses to connect with others. Your body language communicates the true message you are trying to send. Research has shown that from 50% to as much as 100% of your message is communicated through body language. A simple hand gesture may be all it takes to convey 100% of what you mean. Word and tone of voice are only 7% to 10% of the message. Your ability to read, interpret and understand another person's body language can mean the difference between making a great impression or a very bad one. Understanding and using body language signals for effect can enhance your work relationship skills. Here are some examples of body language and their meanings.
