Things You'll Need:
- A good pair of walking shoes.
- The desire to bring health and wellness to your body, mind, and spirit.
-
Step 1
Get your self a good pair of athletic shoes, preferably designed specifically for walking. Find where you are going to walk...a nice trail, a sidewalk, at the gym, or on your own home treadmill.
-
Step 2
Start at a pace that is comfortable yet vigorous. It is always best to start out slowly, especially if you have never worked out before or have a significant weight problem. Your pace will increase the more you walk, but for now find a pace that is comfortable. A good power-walking pace is somewhere between 3.5 and 5.5 miles per hour.
-
Step 3
Power walking, or speed walking, is a great calorie burner and also great for pregnant women who wish to keep their bodies in tip top shape. If you weight 150 pounds and walk at a 4.5 mile per hour pace on level ground, you can burn about 440 calories!
