Care for Dilated Eyes

If you've been to the eye doctor lately, you may have had your eyes dilated. What you may not realize is how sensitive your eyes will become once dilated.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
Do you always dress like this?
Do you always dress like this?

Make sure someone is with you to drive once you leave the doctor's office. Your eye sight may be affected as long as 1-2 days, though, in most cases, your eyes will return to normal within 4 hours.

  2. Step 2

Wear sunglasses when you leave the eye doctor's office and keep them on while you are outside. You may wish to keep them on when you enter the house depending on how sensitive your eyes are.

  3. Step 3

Keep the drapes closed and lights dim while your eyes are dilated. Light will bother the eyes. Do not read, work on the computer, or watch television while your eyes are dilated.

  4. Step 4

If your eyes ache, take Tylenol and try a cold washcloth placed over them. If your eyes pain, call the doctor. Your eyes should return to normal anywhere from 4 hours to a day or two. Everyone is different.

on 7/1/2008 This is excellent advice. Last time I went to the eye doctor no one had told me to bring a friend or sunglasses. My ride home was absolutely miserable and my eyes hurt so bad. This is great information. Eye docs should give this info out BEFORE you show up to your appointment!
