Have you ever really thought about the phrase - "Actions speak louder than words?" Basically, it means that if you say one thing and act in an opposite way, your words will be ignored and only the actions will be remembered. We learn more from a person's actions than from the words themselves. In every situation, what we DO will communicate more clearly than what we SAY. Actions reinforce words; they make them REAL. If you want people to believe your words, you should SPEAK with your actions. Research indicates that words are only 10% of any spoken communication. The remainder is non-verbal such as body language, tone and other factors. So, how do we align our words with our actions? Here are several strategies you can implement immediately.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Integrity
  • Willingness to DO what you SAY
  1. Step 1

Consider postponing any discussion or spoken communication until you are sure you can be completely clear and are not sending mixed messages.

  2. Step 2

Give yourself a few moments to think of a response before you charge in "mouth-first".

  3. Step 3

Make your responses purpose-driven, constructive, and realistic. Re-word your statements to be more effective.

  4. Step 4

Make your point graciously and in a professional and convincing manner.

  5. Step 5

Be aware of the body language cues you project when speaking and pay close attention to the signs others may give.

  6. Step 6

Understand it's not all about you! Remove excessive emotion from spoken communications and don't flaunt your ego.

  7. Step 7

Watch your tone of voice. You can radiate caring and concern but you can also project your boredom, anger and annoyance by the tone of your voice.
