If you've ever experienced a urinary tract infection, you know how miserable they are. The bacteria that causes these infections has become notoriously resistant to antibiotics, and doctors now prescribe Cipro. If you're prone to them, or if you have a mild infection that you're sure isn't a kidney infection, here are some natural remedies ou can try instead.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Lots of filtered water
  • d Mannose supplements
  • unsweetened cranberry extract
  • uvi ursi

Step1
The first thing you want to do when you have even a hint of a bladder infection is to start hydrating yourself with water and keep drinking it. Aim for 64 ounces a day, and avoid any beverages with sugar. Consult a physician for proper diagnosis.
Step2
Studies have shown cranberry to be effective for UTI's. Don't use the sugar sweetened juices that are detrimental to you immune system. Look for cranberry extract and continue flushing with water. It may be easier to take a cranberry supplement. The instructions might say to take only one capsule 1 to 3 times a day which is the amount needed to maintain a healthy urinary tract. To heal an infection you will need to take at least two to three times more than suggested.
Step3
D-Mannose is very effective and easier than drinking huge quantities of unsweetened cranberry juice. I used this in combination with the cranberry extract to cure my daughter's recurrent bladder infections.
Step4
Uva Ursi is an herb which is excellent for treating urinary tract infections. Uva ursi contains arbutin, which is a chemical that has antiseptic and analgesic properties which are helpful in clearing the urinary tract of bacteria. It is also astringent and has diuretic effects that help reduce the accumulation of uric acid.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use cranberry extract on a regular basis to keep UTI's at bay
  • See a doctor for a proper diagnosis, and ask him about using these therapies
