Fourth of July Fireworks

It's just so fun to light fireworks on the fourth! It would definitely ruin the celebration if someone got hurt.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • bucket
  • incense
  • hose
  • first aid kit
  1. Step 1

First things first! Make sure that all of your fireworks are LEGAL! Also, read the individual labels so that you are aware of EXACTLY what they are supposed to do, if they shoot flames, sparks, etc.

  2. Step 2

Next, you will want to inspect the area that you are going to use for lighting and viewing the fireworks. Remove anything flammable or hazardous.(i.e. leaves, trash, debris...) Also keep in mind that if the area is dry, you will likely want to use the hose to wet it down beforehand.

  3. Step 3

Designate!!! Designate a sober fireworks supervisor/lighter, designate the lighting area, and designate the viewing area which should be a safe distance from the lighting area.

  4. Step 4

Place a bucket of water closeby to douse any "duds" as well as to put out sparklers, roman candles, etc.

  5. Step 5

Finally, make sure to go over the rules with all guests so that everyone is on the same page. (Especially children and teenagers!) Let them know the location of the water bucket, the first aid kit, and who the designated SOBER fireworks supervisor/lighter will be. Also, remind them not to shoot fireworks at anyone, and to practice all of the safety precautions that you practice.

  6. Step 6

Now you may enjoy your July Fourth celebration with a clear mind.
    Remember to stay safe!

Tips & Warnings
  • use incense sticks to light the wicks of fireworks! This is safer because there is no spark that may unintentionally cause fireworks to go off.
  • keep a first aid kit nearby equipped with burn soothing gel, bandaids, and other first aid items. ( you don't want to be searching for these things in an emergency!)
  • Make sure the viewing area is not downwind from the firework lighting area! Ashes and debris may still be hot! You don't want this to ruin the party!

on 7/6/2008 Happy to say all fingers are still intact (even though I didn't exactly follow Step #1). Thanks for the good advice.
