Removing wallpaper is tiresome, tedious work. But hiring someone to do the work can be expensive. Here are some quick and inexpensive tricks to removing wallpaper yourself.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • laundry softener
  • Glass cleaner (i.e. windex)
  • Fork
  1. Step 1

Mix one capful of laundry softener(any brand or scent)to a pail of warm water. With a sponge apply mixture to wallpaper. Start peeling. If wallpaper is stubborn to remove try scoring the paper with a fork.

  2. Step 2

Another trick is to use straight window cleaner(any brand). Spray directly on wallpaper or you can pour into a bucket and sponge on. Once again, if the paper is hard to remove, score with a fork.

  3. Step 3

With either method, before you reapply any paper or paint, clean walls of any leftover residue with plain or soapy water.

  4. Step 4

There are solutions you can buy at most home improvement stores specifically made for removing wallpaer, but they are no more effective than the above solutions and cost more.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's easiest to remove paper by starting at a corner. It will usually pull off in larger sheets this way. A paint scraper or butter knife can be a useful tool to help with stubborn areas.
