How to Make Old Fashioned Pink Lemonade

How to Make Old Fashioned Pink Lemonadethumbnail
Kids give a toast with pink lemonade.

Pink lemonade from scratch depends on something special to give the drink its color. The old-fashioned method does it with grenadine, a syrup derived from pomegranates. The rest is a matter of regular lemon juice, sugar and water.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • 1 1/4 cup grenadine
    • 1 cup lemon juice
    • 2/3 cup sugar
    • 4 cups water
    • 1 cup crushed ice
      • 1

Mix the sugar and water in a pitcher.

      • 2

Add the lemon juice and grenadine when the sugar dissolves.

      • 3

Make adjustments to taste. Some people may need more sugar and lemon, or more water if the taste is too strong.

      • 4

Add the crushed ice and serve the drink.

    Tips & Warnings

    • You can add strawberries (frozen is fine) in substitution for the cranberry juice to make Strawberry Lemonade.

    • Some grenadine syrups may contain alcohol. The syrup, in fact, is commonly used to sweeten cocktails. Check the label before using it in pink lemonade.
