The basics for opening an ecommerce website to make money online.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step to starting your own ecommerce site will be the product. There are many factors in determining the products you will offer. You must decide what you are interested in, and will remain interested in for the long term. Also, pricing is a major consideration. If you pay too much for items, you'll never see a profit. Shipping times are also key, especially if you are not using a drop shipping company as your supplier.

  2. Step 2

The next step will be choosing and registering a domain name. Use a name that is short and easy to remember, this will help customers find you and return easily. There are many options for registering your name, such as godaddy, that is very inexpensive.

  3. Step 3

The design of your website is key to the whole operation. You site must look professional and be Very Easy to use. Even with the best products at the lowest prices, if your site looks sloppy or is hard to use, you will lose a lot of potential business.

  4. Step 4

With the site, you will need an shopping cart option, whether you use paypal, google checkout, or another company is a decision that will be made after research and looking for features that are needed for your particular situation.

on 9/12/2009 One of the things to consider when searching for a shopping cart and payment gateway system is if you can easily upload your order fulfillment data to your outsourced fulfillment house.

My fulfillment company provides a list of web store systems such as Yahoo Stores and Volusion that automatically interface with our online fulfillment control pane. Details are posted on our website www.efulfillmentservice.com.

on 12/4/2008 There are many sites out there that allow you to build your own online store without knowing any programming at all. Try www.yahoo-store-builder.com, www.netnowsolutions.com, or search for others.

I personally use www.netnowsolutions.com because it allows you to customize the look a lot more then most of the others and has fairly good pricing.

Check some of them out and decide for yourself!
