This simple trick will help you remember the difference between the homonyms "your" and "you're", so that you won't make the common mistake of confusing them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • your brain
Step1
Remember "you're" is a contraction, which is two words put together. "You" is combined with "are" to make "you're". The little ' takes the place of the missing a. In a sentence, it should still make sense if you replace "you're" with "you are".
Step2
"Your" is possessive. Use this spelling when describing something that is possessed by the second person. "Your car is on fire," for example.
Step3
"You're mother called this morning" is incorrect, because "You are mother called this morning" does not make sense. So the proper usage is "YOUR mother called this morning."
