Things You'll Need:
- Party theme
- Computer printing program
- internet connection
- Die cut shapes
- Vellum paper
-
Step 1
Using your own computer program such as PrintShop or Photoshop is a great way to design a fun invitation. Have fun with it, use photos you have stored in the computer, and/or fun clip art to make the invitation fun and creative.
-
Step 2
Look for a caricature artist who can create a memorable caricature of the party guests. This idea is great for retirement parties, milestone birthday parties, or "save the date" and rehearsal dinner parties. You can then use the caricature in the invitation
-
Step 3
Some companies will design a custom invitation for you, using your own photos. I have done this for my daughter's birthday parites. One year a company used my daughter's photo but drew in roller blades for her roller skating themed party.
-
Step 4
My favorite and most inexpensive way to design invitations and cards is by using VistaPrint. You can use clip art and upload it into the invitation, or your own photos
-
Step 5
I recently made my own "fill in the blank" thank you cards using VistaPrint so my daughter could write her thank you notes without a lot of effort. Dear ___________, Thank you so much for____________, etc.
-
Step 6
You also can get die cut blank invites, or make your own. I once found a box of roller blade shaped invites without wording. Another time I copied a detailed photo of a swan and made copies. Then print your invite wording on vellum, lay it over and cut to fit. You can glue it together around the edges or hole punch and hold together with ribbon. I added feathers to my swan invitation which was for a swan themed baby shower.

Step 7
These strategies are fun and simple and will save you a lot of money on using a local printing company. Keep an eye out for invitation supplies when you're out shopping and keep materials on hand for impromptu birthday get togethers.
