Streamtuner is a free Internet radio stream browser for the Linux environment. Streamtuner uses plugins to browse and search popular portals like Shoutcast. With Streamtuner, you can organize your favorite radio streams and play them in one browser. Streamtuner downloads a list of online radio streams then tells XMMS to play the selected stream. XMMS is the default media player for Streamtuner. Here are a few tips to help you easily organize and play radio streams in Streamtuner.

  • Computer

  • XMMS
  1. Step 1

    Configure plugins. pen Streamtuner then click "Edit" and then "Preferences" in the toolbar. The Streamtuner Preferences window will open. In the right panel, check the plugins or portals that you want to load at startup.

  2. Step 2

    Choose stream columns. Click "View" then "Stream Columns" to choose which columns you want to display while browsing radio streams. Always choose to display "Bitrate" to distinguish the higher quality streams.

  3. Step 3

    Choose a plugin. The plugins or portals that you configured will now appear as tabs under the toolbar. Click a tab such as "Shoutcast" and allow the available streams to load.

  4. Step 4

    Listen to a radio stream. The right panel of each plugin displays the streams that are available in each category. Clicking a stream will launch it in XMMS. Simply click another stream to change to a different radio station.

  5. Step 5

    Bookmark streams. When you find a station you like, right-click it and choose "Add Bookmark." Your selection will appear in the Bookmarks tab until you delete it.

  6. Step 6

    Configure bookmarked streams. To configure the properties of a bookmarked stream, right-click the stream then choose "Properties." A window will open allowing you to personalize the stream's name, genre and description.

  7. Step 7

    Delete entries. To delete bookmarked streams, right-click the entry you want to remove then choose "Delete" from the list. Continue organizing radio streams in Streamtuner by repeating steps 4 through 7.

Tips & Warnings
  • Each plugin has hundreds of radio streams for you to choose from. Experiment with each plugin to see which portal has the kind of music you like.
  • To search for a specific stream, song or artist, click "Search" in the left panel and a dialog box will open allowing you to enter your search terms.
  • If the station is full or the stream isn't available you'll get an error. Close XMMS then try a different stream.
