Find the best method that works with your schedule and work with it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Styling tools (brush and comb)
  • Curling iron
  • Metal rollers
  • Cleaning aid (See step 1)
  • Children's detangler

Step1
Thoroughly clean the hair. You can use a cleaner like Windex or 409 to clean the wig. Wet the hair first with warm water. Work the cleaner through the hair and rinse with clean warm water. Use a towel to blot dry. Then use a children-strength detangler to work out any kinks in the hair. Rinse out the detangler. If the wig is frizzy or dry, saturate the wig with "Son of a Gun" and cover with some sort of plastic. Let it stay this way for a day or two. Let it dry then rinse it out.
Step2
Use the roller method. Find some vintage metal hair rollers. If you can't find any, just use small perm rods. It is also a good idea to visualize how you want the hair to be styled. This is important for knowing what direction to roll the hair in.While the hair is still wet, part it into small sections and roll the hair up. Depending on the hair, you will have to let the rollers sit for a day at the most. Remove the rollers to check the progress. If the hair is still damp after removing the roller, but the curl is defined, let it completely dry before styling it.
Step3
Use the boiling water perm method. Follow the directions in step 2 to roll the hair. Boil some water on the stove or in the microwave. Stick the wig in the sink and pour the boiling hot water over it. You can either immediate pour cold water over it or just allow the wig to sit in the sink a few minutes to cool off. Do NOT try to pick the wig up immediately after pouring the hot water over it. It will burn your fingers. After about fifteen minutes after the wig has cooled, remove the rollers. Allow it to completely dry before styling.
Step4
Use the curling iron method. For this method, you can either use the type of curling iron that plugs into the wall or the ones that you will have to heat on a stove. Either way, prepare the hair first. Follow the instructions in step 1 for cleaning the wig. Do NOT rinse out the 'Son of a Gun', but let it dry. Set the curling iron on the lowest possible setting, or only heat lightly, and curl the hair in sections. You can also use this method on straight hair by just bring the curling iron down the hair instead of curling it.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can find 'Son of a Gun' in the automotive section of the store or at a auto parts store.
