Things You'll Need:
- Squirt bottle
- Pet furniture spray
- Furniture covers

Step 1
Scold your animal when you first notice they have been trying to get the furniture. Let them know what they did was very bad. Most times animals can tell by the tone in your voice that they are in trouble. If you have the same sweet voice as you normally talk to them when you are mad they are not going to think anything is wrong.
-
Step 2
Lock your pets outside or in a room. Make sure you use the same method of scolding or discipline. They will know that you caught them and that they have done something bad. If they have a doggie door just make sure that they cannot get back in through it. Leave them outside or in a room for as long as you see fit.
-
Step 3
Spray them with water from a water bottle. Most pets especially the cats dislike this very much. Every time they get sprayed with the water they will know that they are doing something bad. After a few times of doing this it should stop. You will just need to make sure that you have the water bottle on hand.
-
Step 4
Buy a special spray from either your veterinarian or pet store. This spray has an awful taste to it and it is totally harmless to your pet. If they come in contact with it they will foam at the mouth. You can spray this on your furniture and it is odorless and it will not stain. This can be expensive depending on the brand that you buy and where you shop.

Step 5
Use furniture covers this will help you to protect your furniture to a certain extent. You will be able to choose different colors and patterns that you like. Furniture covers are available almost everywhere. Be sure to shop around.
