  • Flat work surface
  • Crayons and/or colored pencils
  • Standard stapler with staples loaded
  • Pair of scissors
  • Two wide popsicle sticks
  • Glue Stick
  • Thin ribbon measuring 18", any color

How To Make a Victorian Fan

Step1
Spread paper on flat work surface. Color on one side of the paper with crayons and/or colored pencils.
Step2
Fold paper like a fan, using the side that measures 4" as the fan part.
Step3
Staple the bottom of the fan, then trim top and bottom of fan to make edges even.
Step4
Affix one popsicle stick to the side of the fan with the glue, pressing the top edge of the stick just below the staple and pressing the stick all the way down the side of the fan. Repeat for other side of fan.
Step5
Fold ribbon in half and stick top of fan in the fold of the ribbon.
Step6
Use glue stick to attach the ribbon straight down both sides of the fan with the popsicle sticks. The ribbon should hang off the ends of the sticks. Set aside to let dry.
Step7
Use fan by opening popsicle sticks. Tie ribbon to hold fan open or closed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Color over entire side of paper.
  • Use patterns on side of paper for a cool effect.
  • Do not color both sides of the paper.
  • Do not cover the staple with a popsicle stick.
  • Do not open the fan until the glue is dry.
