Citrus trees can be grown in any area that has a tropical climate. It takes special care and maintenance to get a citrus tree to flourish, but as it does, you may want to trim your growing citrus tree. Follow these guidelines presented here to learn how to trim a citrus tree properly.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Trim at the right time. Trim a citrus tree in mid or late March after the threat of a frost has passed.
Step2
Know how to trim. Citrus trees are actually not trees as all, they are really bushes. If needed, trim the top of the citrus tree, which will promote a short tree and make picking the fruit easier.
Step3
Know what to trim. Unlike all other fruit trees, citrus trees do not need trimming on a regular basis. You should only trim citrus trees in an effort to remove deadwood or suckers that are growing on the trunk.
Step4
Promote fruit. You should never drastically trim a citrus tree. By doing so, you will alter the tree's production of fruit. To get as much fruit as possible from a citrus tree, it should be fertilized at least three limes a year.
