If you’re looking for a new game to play with your kids—something fun and somewhat challenging yet easy to learn—duck shoot marbles may be the game for you. It’s good, old-fashioned enjoyment—and once you’ve started playing, it’s hard to stop! Here’s how to play.

1
Draw two 5' parallel lines on the sidewalk. They should be between 6' and 8' apart, depending on how challenging you want the game to be—8' for more challenging, 6' for less. Pick one line to be your “standing line,” from where you will be shooting your marbles. The other line is the “duck line.”
-
2
Give each player four marbles, then tell each player to position one marble on the duck line. Now each player should be in possession of three marbles.

-
3
The first player stands behind the standing line and uses the traditional knuckle shot to attempt to strike one of the marbles on the duck line. To perform a knuckle shot, hold your hand with the pinkie down, the thumb up and your fingers curled in, as if you are holding something. Rest the marble in the crook (knuckle) of your pointing finger, then use your thumb to propel the marble away from you.

4
If the first player succeeds in striking one of the marbles on the duck line, he gets to collect both marbles—the one used for shooting and the one that was struck. He should now have four marbles in hand. If, however, the player doesn’t succeed in striking one of the marbles on the duck line, he must put one of his three marbles on the duck line with the rest; the player should now have two marbles in hand.
-
5
The second player now performs Steps 3 and 4, then the third player, and so on, until each player has had a chance to aim at the marbles on the duck line. Then it is the first player’s turn again.
-
6
The winner is the player who ends up with all of the marbles.
