How to Discourage Public Displays of Affections
Public displays of affection, or PDA, can sometimes get out of hand. Many don't mind being around a couple that is holding hands in public, but full on make out sessions generally aren't welcome, especially in public areas where there are children. So, what can you do to discourage grotesque public displays of affection around you when you are in public? There are quite a few tactics that you can use, some harsh and some more polite, to discourage couples from getting too frisky around you. Ask politely if they would hold off on their displays of affection until you are no longer in each other's presence. If you have children with you this is probably the best way to deal with unwanted public displays of affection since you will want to teach your children how to deal with such situations politely. This tactic will likely work best with a younger couple that may be intimidated by your age or just be embarrassed into submission. If you do this with an older couple you may find that you get attitude back.

Stare at the couple. Perhaps the couple sharing in PDA around you isn't completely aware of how ridiculous their displays have become, and staring might just be enough to get them to stop. They may also feel so uncomfortable being stared at that they stop just to get you to stop staring at them.

Tell them to "Get a room!" You know that not so subtle cough message that you probably learned in high school, well it might just work in this situation. If you don't want to yell out, "Get a room!" You can simply try "coughing" the message, they might just get it. Sure it is rude, but sometimes a couples PDA is rude as well.

Complain to an employee. If enough people complain about a couple's kissing and groping then employees will deal with the problem by politely asking the couple to control themselves because they are making other customers uncomfortable. If you are a non-confrontational person then this maybe the best route for you, just in case the couple is a little bit more confrontational than you had planned on.

Pull them apart physically. You can try this tactic as a last resort, just be prepared to explain yourself to the police if needed.

I don't understand why PDA could be grotesque at all. I wouldn't know why I would have to teach my children that affection is inappropriate. There are worse things out in this world for them to see than scary grotesque affection. I understand if it gets out of hand that you should tell them. Unlike me, not everyone is going to find love as a good thing in a society. But there absolutely is no reason why you should counteract it with such obviously rude and unnecessary attempts. If you say" get a room", your obviously a jerk that has no time to think things through. Whoever's bright idea it was to physically grab them needs to get arrested for their stupidity. You don't need to touch anyone at all for something as trivial as this. If you really are THAT bothered by people you need to look around you and find something else more important to consume your time with than bother going through all these steps. Number 1 and 4 are the only ones that seem right to me otherwise.
