Many women like having a bikini area free of hair, but often getting it done at a salon can add up to quite a bit of money. Aside from money, not all women are comfortable with other people waxing that particular area. Doing it at home can be tricky the first time, but soon will become easier once the process is done a few times.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bikini wax
  • Hair removal strips
  • Baby powder
  • Soothing cream
  • Cotton balls
  • Baby oil
  1. Step 1

Begin by either trimming hair to 1/4 inch, or letting it grow to that length. Wax will not stick to hair shorter than that and will only be painful and ineffective to remove. Hair that is longer than 1/4 inch is also too long to stick properly to the bikini wax.

Gather all of your items together and find a spot to do the wax. Prepare for the treatment by cleaning the area and dry thoroughly. Wax will not stick to wet skin, so it is important to dry the skin completely. Next, apply baby powder to the area to be waxed, which can help prevent wax sticking to the skin when hair is being removed.

Sit on the edge of the bathtub or toilet and lean back enough to have access to the whole area. Next make sure the wax is warm, but not too hot. Test the temperature on the inside of the arm to find the right temperature and to avoid burns to the skin.

  4. Step 4

Take a stick and apply a thin layer of wax on the bikini area in the direction of the hair growth. Do small areas to avoid it from drying too quickly and causing injury. Next, place a hair removal cloth over the warm wax and firmly rub in place in the direction of the hair growth. Once the strip is applied, pull tightly on the skin and then pull off the strip as quickly as possible in the opposite direction of how the hair grows.

  5. Step 5

Continue this process until all the hair is gone, and then apply a soothing cream with a cotton ball. These creams can soothe and calm the irritated skin, as well as prevent ingrown hairs. Baby oil can help remove any wax that is still remaining on the skin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not all hair will be removed the first time, but avoid going over the same area more than once.
  • Be sure to check the temperature of the wax before application
