How to Create Titles for Television in Premiere Pro

One very handy function of Adobe Premiere Pro is its ability to create titles. Titles are also known as credits, and can include any type of text seen in a movie, including the title of the film or video, the names of the actors and crew and even subtitles. They can be created in any font available on your computer, and you can add logos, photos and other graphics to customize your movie. An important consideration to keep in mind when creating titles is where they will appear on your viewer’s screen. If your movie will be viewed on a standard size television, the titles must be created within the “title safe margins.”

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Adobe Premiere Pro program and the Title Editor.

    • 2

Locate the two rectangular boxes around the edges of the editing box. They define what is known as the “title-safe and action-safe margin.” This designates the title’s visible area. These margins are set by default, and show you the viewable area used for TV and videotape. This margin ensures that the titles will fit in the area that most TVs will display.

    • 3

Show the video within the Title Editor panel. This is useful if you need to place text over a specific area of a clip but remain within the safe zone.

    • 4

Check the box next to “Show Video” in the Title Editor panel.

    • 5

Drag the time-value indicator next to “Show Video” by clicking on it and scrolling until it reaches the frame you need and is visible in the drawing area.

    • 6

Type in your title text. Click on the “T” in the toolbox, then click in the editing frame.

    • 7

From the toolbox, choose the selection tool that looks like an arrow. Next, go back to the Editor panel and click on the text. You can drag it to any area in the frame. Make sure it stays within the title-safe area.
