One common knitting project is knitting the alphabet. This can be done to create toys for infants, for teaching a child to read or just for decoration.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pattern
  • Knitting needles
  • Yarn
  1. Step 1

Find an alphabet chart. The best way to start to knit the alphabet is by using an alphabet chart for your pattern. These charts can be found at Knit Magazine online (link in the Resources section below) as well as at your local craft store.

  2. Step 2

Print the letters. If you find an alphabet chart online, print the letters you will need. By printing the letters, you will be able to make them the proper size so that it will be easier for you to follow the pattern.

  3. Step 3

Pick your yarn. Determine if you want all of the letters to be the same color or if you want a variety of colors for the alphabet. Then pick yarn that matches the colors you want and that will be easy for you to work with.

  4. Step 4

Get the right materials. Determine the length of the needles that will be most comfortable to you when attempting this knitting project.

  5. Step 5

Stitch the alphabet, if you think knitting the alphabet is too advanced for you. You can stitch the alphabet by using a simple fabric, a needle and some thread.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider what you will be doing with the knitted alphabet before you begin your project. If the letters will be placed in direct sunlight, the colors could fade. Make sure you determine the proper colors and location for your finished product.
