How to Market Through Forums

Many people are starting their own businesses online. Through the internet you have access to millions of people with potential interest in what you have to offer. Sometimes it seems overwhelming to determine the best route to market yourself. There are many ways to do this through paid advertising, but sometimes you just don't have to the extra money. If you were to start a business in your home town, known as a brick and mortar business, you would probably place signs all over town in places where your potential customers might be. Marketing in forums work in a very similar way.

1. Join a forum that is centered around the type of business you own or service you offer. Most are free to to join and all you need is an email address. Make sure that the forum you join is a high traffic forum with a lot of members and a lot of activity.

2. Introduce yourself to the members and give some background information. Usually there will be a "new member" thread, or one specifically for introductions. This is where you should make your first post.

3. Make valid contributions to discussions to display your knowledge about the subject you are trying to sell or offer. Simply peruse the forum and read any threads that seem interesting or that could use some information that you have to offer.

4. Create a signature displaying a link to your business or a statement about the services you offer. In some cases, you will have to have a certain amount of posts before you can do this. If you followed step three, this should not be a problem.

5. Keep replying to threads and other posts to show off your expertise. This will enable other members to see that you are a credible source for information. They will begin to trust you and go to you with problems or questions. Soon you will establish yourself as an expert in your niche.

6. Create a thread blatantly advertising what you have to offer. Do this only after you have established yourself on the forum. Make the advertisement interesting and informative.
