How to Use the Shutter Priority Mode on a Canon XH A1

In order to shoot video that's clear and crisp, controlling the shutter speed is important. When using a film camera, the shutter speed represents the exposure time for each frame. Because the Canon XH A1 is a digital camera, it does not rely on film. The shutter speed on a digital camera represents the speed in which objects are captured. Being able to adjust the shutter speed on a digital video camera will enable you to create video that is easy to view and full of detail.

    How to Use the Shutter Priority Mode on a Canon XH A1

  1. Step 1

    Located the shutter priority button on the power control panel. The button will have 'Tv' printed on it. The camera will control all the other functions except shutter speed while you're using it.

  2. Step 2

    Located the ring on the bottom left hand side of the camera. Use this ring to adjust the shutter speed during filming.

  3. Step 3

    Use the LCD screen to monitor the quality of what you're filming. Your subject should always be recognizable and clear in the frame. Use the shutter speed gauge located on the left hand side of the screen when making adjustments. Try to adjust the shutter speed to 24 or higher in order to film quality video.

  4. Step 4

    Before filming, test the shutter speed by moving it up and down to increase the amount of light that enters the camera. You will notice that objects will appear fuzzy or slow when the shutter speed is lower than 24. If you position the shutter speed too high, you will see a black screen.

  5. Step 5

    Turn the shutter speed ring all the way to reach the CS mode. This will allow you to film computer screens without having to worry about distortion.
