Feng Shui is based on ancient Chinese principles and beliefs. Followers believe that all personal space is composed of different energies. To harness those energies, furniture and items in a room must be moved around to create better space. In the bedroom, placing your bed in a certain position and using the right accessories will help you to harness those energies according to Feng Shui.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Move your bed to a spot in the bedroom where you can easily get into bed from either side. This is believed to create better harmony; adding matching tables on the sides of the bed provides even more balance.

  2. Step 2

Place the bed where you can see the doorway while laying down without the bed being in a direct line with the doorway. You should be able to see the door from any spot on the bed. This helps you feel more secure and stable. Feng Shui states that you should move your bed if it’s near a door.

  3. Step 3

Position the bed against one wall and place a headboard behind it. According to Feng Shui, your headboard should be made of wood and be very strong. This helps your body remain stable and protects any energy that escapes from your body at night.

  4. Step 4

Keep your bed away from any ceiling beams. The belief is that these heavy beams can drain the energy from your body and focus your mind on negative thoughts. If you have beams in your bedroom, cover them with linens or hang wind chimes from the beams.

  5. Step 5

Maintain a sense of space between the bed and the door. Some Feng Shui followers say that you should put your bed at an angle in one corner, away from the door. This helps you maintain your balance and gives you time to prepare yourself if someone walks into the room.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid putting your bed directly against a wall because this placement can make you feel cluttered. Instead, use a headboard or a large piece of cloth to separate the wall from the bed.
  • Don’t keep a lot of clutter around your bed or place anything at the end of your bed. According to Feng Shui, this causes your mind to easily be distracted, which can drain your energy even while asleep.
