How to Play Hang Man
Hang man is a classic guessing game. It does not require a game board or anything else except a pen/pencil and a sheet of paper, so it can be played on the back of a used envelope, on scratch paper or an old piece of newspaper. Like tic-tac-toe, it is a great game to play while traveling or when you’re just bored. There do not seem to be any official rules to the game, but most agree on this basic method of playing hang man.
Instructions

-
1
Find a worthy opponent. Hang man is typically played with two players but probably could be played with more.
-
2
Decide on a word or phrase to challenge your opponent. Hang man typically involves the guessing of a word, but there can be themed versions of hang man where players challenge each other with film, book or song titles, places or many other things.
-
-
3
Draw dashes representing each letter of the word that you want your opponent to guess. Add spaces between the sets of dashes, representing words, if you have chosen a phrase.
-
4
Draw the gallows for the hanging man. This is most commonly drawn before the guessing game begins. However, some feel that the gallows should be drawn as part of the game so that the opponent has more chances to guess the word in question.
-
5
Begin guessing letters that make up the word.
-
6
Fill in the letters if your opponent guesses correctly.
-
7
Start drawing the stick person of a hanging man if your opponent guesses a letter that does not make up the word. Draw the head first, then the body, then the arms one at a time and the legs one at a time each time an opponent guesses incorrectly.
-
8
Guess the entire word when you think you know it. If you’re right, you win the game!
-
9
Guess too many incorrect letters and the full hanging man has been drawn – you lose the game!
