Whether you are looking for a part time gig or a full time job, there are ways to find housekeeping jobs that include both residences and small offices. Here are the basic steps you need to follow in order to secure the work assignments you seek.

1
Get the word out that you are available. Often, the best way to accomplish this is to advertise in local publications. This may include the classified section of the daily newspaper as well as weekly local publications that allow persons to offer services. Also consider the community bulletin boards that are often provided at local grocery stores and laundromats.
-
2
Scan local advertising. Along with placing ads in local outlets, check for any help wanted with housekeeping assignments that are currently offered. Make sure the assignments are in parts of the city where you feel comfortable going to and from work.

3
Sign up with an agency. Many persons who need domestic services such as general housekeeping prefer to go through and agency, since the background checks and screenings are already completed before the applicant is sent out on an interview. An agency can find quality assignments that fit your skill set and the hours you wish to work. Be prepared to provide the agency with a resume and references if you have them.
-
4
Use word of mouth. Pass out business cards to friends and ask them to pass them along when they hear of someone who is looking for a reliable housekeeper. You can also have the cards handy to pass along when you hear of an opportunity during a chance discussion with a stranger.
-
5
Ask for referrals. Once you have a few satisfied clients, ask them if they know of other persons who could use your services. Alternatively, ask for permission to use the client as a reference in the event you hear of a job opportunity.

Tips & Warnings
Decide if you want one ongoing assignment that takes up most of your week or prefer to have several clients that you see over the course of the week. Making this determination will make it easier for the agency to match you with the right assignments.
Always be clear about what type of cleaning duties you do and do not perform. This will prevent the chance of misunderstandings leading to bad word of mouth about your efficiency or work ethic.
