How to Improve Your Rap Skills

Rap has quickly become a legitimate and popular type of music that has many sharpening their skills to become better. Developing and building and individuals rap skills and ability is not an over-night feat, and must be done intently in order to become better over time.

      Carry an 'expressive device'. Always be sure you have a way to record an idea you may have. This can be done by carrying a pen and paper with you or even a voice recorder. Use these to recall good ideas later when you are sitting down for a more focused brainstorm.

      Brainstorm your lyrics and write them down. Set aside some time that is specifically for coming up with ideas. Expound on those ideas until you have made a hard copy of your desired rap. Whatever comes to mind write it down, be sure not to leave things out if possible.

      Revise your rap. After you have composed a ruff draft of your rap, it is time to go through it once again and refine your ideas to absolutes. Be sure to emphasize your idea while making it flow thoroughly, putting all the cognitive last touches on the composition before it leaves paper.

      Practice your raps regularly. Keep in mind the tempo you will be rapping to and the type of delivery you will give when rapping. You will know you are more comfortable rapping when you don't stumble over lyrics and there are smooth transitions in performance and utterance. Practicing in front of a mirror to see yourself while you are doing it is good as this will also give you a clue of what you look like during your performance and in front of an audience.

      Get honest feedback. Friends and family can be biased in their opinion so be sure the feedback you get is from an objective standpoint. Remember this is the time to focus on improvement and receive constructive criticism.
