Wait for the right weather. You will want full sunshine, and depending on location of your setting, you will need to wait for a certain time of the day. Watch your setting for one full day to see how the shadows move.

Choose your focus. Will the pool be the focus of your picture, or will it be a background feature? If the pool is the focus, you are going to need to make sure it is sparkling clean. You will also need to account for the sun on the water, which can be blinding during certain times of the day.

Frame your photo. Although you are taking landscaping pictures and not portraits, you still need to frame your subject. Try to capture shots that are framed with greenery, fencing, or buildings. Landscaping photos often work best from a position of height, so consider using a ladder or even getting up onto the roof of a nearby building to get your shots.

Consider adding an action element. Landscapes are considered to be outdoor living spaces. Oftentimes, adding a dog to the green grass, or children playing in the pool, makes the viewer able to imagine him self living in the moment of the picture, and thus creates an emotional connection to the shot.

Bring props. Even the best landscapes can be improved. Add a colorful beach ball to the middle of the pool, or arrange some brightly colored flowers around the edge of the pool.
