How to Make the Best Lo-Fat Hot Chocolate

  1. Step 1

Gather all of the ingredients. Make sure you have all of the ingredients you need for your lo-fat hot chocolate. Make sure you have fat free milk, cocoa powder, Splenda, cinnamon, mini marshmallows and fat free Cool Whip.

  2. Step 2

Mix the dry ingredients together. Mix together 1/3 to 2/3 cup of your favorite cocoa powder. Hershey’s makes a really good one. Add in 1/3 cup of your favorite artificial sweetener. You can use Splenda, Equal or Sweet ‘N Low. Add in 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix all of the dry ingredients together. You want to make sure the dry mixture is evenly mixed. It ensures that your hot chocolate mixture will be thoroughly mixed as well.

  3. Step 3

Warm up the milk. Take 4 cups of fat free milk and warm it up on the stove in a pan. Heat it up at a medium-low setting because you don’t want the milk to scald. Allow the milk to heat up for approximately 10 minutes or until it is thoroughly heated up. Turn the stove setting to simmer.

  4. Step 4

Add in the dry ingredients. Once the milk has been heated up, add in the dry ingredients slowly. Add in a small amount of the dry mixture to the heated milk and thoroughly stir it up. Continue this method until all of the dry ingredients have been added and the mixture is thoroughly mixed.

  5. Step 5

Allow mixture to simmer for 5 minutes. Once the hot chocolate mixture is thoroughly mixed cover the pan with a lid and allow it to simmer. Periodically check the mixture to make sure the milk is not scalding.

  6. Step 6

Pour hot cocoa mixture into mugs. Once your hot chocolate is finished cooking divide it equally into 4 mugs. Add some fresh marshmallows and top with a dollop of Fat Free Cool Whip. If you desire any extra cinnamon powder, now is the time to sprinkle it on top of the Cool Whip. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • For an extra creamy lo-fat hot chocolate substitute fat free half and half for milk.
  • Don’t leave the milk unattended. Otherwise, it will scald.
