All of us have room to make some lifestyle changes to improve fitness. The most difficult part of this is being determined enough to change habit. However, if we persevere, we can create some new and healthier habits which will fit right in to a healthy lifestyle.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Climb stairs instead of using the elevator or escalator. If an office or apartment is too high to consider this, take the stairs for a particular number of flights and then take the elevator for the rest. Start small and work your way up to a more challenging number. This is an easy way to increase the amount of calories burned in one day which can make losing or maintaining weight less challenging and frustrating.

  2. Step 2

Park in a further spot in the parking lot than usually chosen. This will lead to having to walk or jog to the destination and will increase the total amount of exercise one gets in a given day. Unfortunately, many are in the habit of circling around a parking lot to get the closest spot when it is quite possible to walk a little further. Doing so increases the number of calories burned in a day and sometimes gets you into the store more quickly than waiting to find a particular parking spot.

  3. Step 3

Walk your dog or a neighbor's dog regularly. This will help both you and the dog become more physically fit. Because many people enjoy their pets and will forget how far or how long they have walked, exercise becomes less boring. Vary your path to lesson the monotony over time and to challenge your self as you become stronger.

  4. Step 4

Ride a bike to work, to a store, or to visit friends whenever possible. It is often a habit to take a vehicle when the length of travel could quite easily be managed by walking. Once again, this has become a habit instead of a necessity. There are probably more destinations one travels to in a week's time that could be walked than originally thought.

  5. Step 5

Do housework or yard work while wearing light ankle weights. In time, the extra weight will be less noticed and this makes easy chores more challenging. Turning everyday activities into more of as challenge decreases the need to find as much time to exercise by combining the two. Finding time to fit exercise in can be a challenge in a busy world.
