Plain old hair gel never tasted like this. Not that, you’d want to eat it, anyway, but fruity Jell-O works great for spiking your hair. Since gelatin is the base of hair gel, Jell-O holds your hair perfectly in spiked styles and the wild colors the dessert comes in temporarily hue your hair. It’s super easy and fun to do, not to mention much more economical than buying regular hair gel at the store.
Things You'll Need
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Squeeze bottle
- Blow dryer
Prepare your hair to style by washing and conditioning it first. Your hair should be a little damp.
Mix up the Jell-O according to the directions on the package.
Pour the liquid Jell-O into a squeeze bottle or an old, rinsed out shampoo bottle.
Squeeze the Jell-O all over your hair and coat thoroughly if you want to spike the whole thing. If you just want to spike a portion of your hair, only apply the Jell-O to this area.
Direct the hair in the way you want the spikes to protrude using a comb. If you want a mohawk, bend over at the waist, tilting your head down, and comb the hair upwards away from your head (which would be downward toward the floor).
Use your fingers to complete the look, piecing the hair and spiking it apart, smoothing it with your palms.
Hold in place and dry gently with a blow dryer until the style is hardened and set.
