How to Play Bullseye

Bullseye is a game that can be played with a standard dartboard and darts. It is an easy game to learn, but a hard game to master. This is because you have to use the outside ring on the dart board, known as the double ring, to get your final points and win the game. This requires precision throws in the game of darts. You start with 501 points and the first person to reduce their total to 0 exactly wins.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Darts
  • Dart board
  • Paper
  • Pencil

Step1
Find several opponents to play Bullseye with you. You can play with multiple players each competing to be the first to lower their score from 501 to 0 exactly. You can also divide your friends into teams. If you divide into teams, one player from each team takes their team's turn that round.
Step2
Throw three darts per player or team at the dart board when playing the game of Bullseye.
Step3
Combine the point total of all the darts on the dart board. Keep in mind that the outer ring scores double the value of the number hit, and the inner circle scores triple. The bullseye in Bullseye scores 50 points. After you total all your points together subtract that total from your score or your team's score.
Step4
Play until one team or player hits zero with a double ring dart. Teams continue to play until one team or individual reduces their score to zero exactly. There are some restrictions about reducing your score to zero to win, though. Your final dart that reduces your score to zero must be a dart that lands in the double ring around the outside of the dart board.
Step5
Penalize a team or individual for scoring more points than they need to reach zero. If a player or team scores more points than they need to reach zero, they are penalized. This means if you take their points subtracted from their previous round's score and it is less than 0, there is a penalty. The penalty is that their score remains where it was to begin the round.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try for triple scores early in the game. These scores can be worth more than hitting the bullseye. Keep in mind the 20 can be one of the easiest spots on the dart board to hit if you throw a dart straight.
  • Be careful about scoring more points than you need to win. Some people play an advanced version of Bullseye in which your penalty is your previous round's score plus this round's score, instead of subtracting it for going below zero in a round.
