Designing your own dream garden depends on the type of garden you are looking to create. There are magazines filled with pictures of beautiful gardens to help you with your planning. Designing a garden full of color and beauty is a simple process, and even if you're not known for having a green thumb, you too can learn to plant flowers and greenery to attract even the most popular home show.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shovel
  • Seeds
  • Potted plants
  • Bulbs
  • Soil
  • Fertilizer
  1. Step 1

Make sure the soil in your garden area is top-notch, full of vitamins and nutrients. You can buy fertilizer and other soils in the garden section of a supply house or department store.

  2. Step 2

Water the area sufficiently that will be used for your dream garden. Your soil should not be dry. Keep it watered daily even before you begin planting. This will ensure your ground is ready when you are.

  3. Step 3

Purchase from your local nursery plants, trees and potted flowers--all ready to be transferred from their pots into your garden. Also, look into different flower seeds and bulbs that can also be planted in your garden.

  4. Step 4

Find different types of flowers that grow year round and others that are seasonal. When planting your dream garden, make sure to plant some annuals scattered in with the seasonal plants to ensure that each area of your garden has color all year long.

  5. Step 5

Plant larger trees and shrubs along the fence toward the back of your garden. Taller greens will block your view of the flower arrangements if they are planted in the front. Try to get an assortment of greenery so your garden has a wide mix of different plants and flowers.

  6. Step 6

Scatter tiny little white and yellow flowers around your dream garden. These are the type used in baby's breath, and they add just the right amount of color between the ground plants. These flowers can be planted in small bundles all over the garden. You could probably add purples and pinks to create an even prettier dream garden.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most nurseries have instructions for planting that come with their flowers and greenery. Make sure to ask the expert for any advice on planting. Always make sure to plant anti-sun flowers in the shade, and flowers that need bright light in the sun.
  • Although not all flowers and plants take to the garden right away, as time goes by you will notice more and more flowers blooming and growing. Always give your garden time to acclimate before getting discouraged.
  • With every garden comes pests such as insects and rabbits that will always try to destroy your garden. Make sure your garden is properly covered with a no-pest product. This will ensure that the bugs won't bite. If your problem is a bigger one, like rabbits or rodents, make sure your dream garden has proper fencing to keep the garden-eating creatures out.
