How to Build a Bed Box
With inflation on the rise, even simple things like bed frames have become insanely priced. Or, perhaps your child has gotten too big for their current bed. Instead of going out and buying an expensive one, and watching them outgrow it again, you can build your own. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Circular saw
- Protective glasses
- Face mask
- Plywood
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- 2 x 4 lumber
- Nails
- Hammer
- Bed
- Sand paper
- Paint
- Paint roller or brushes

Lay out the mattress that you want to be boxed and begin measuring the length and the width of it, writing down the numbers as you go. Add two inches to each length and width.

Take your lumber and put it onto the circular saw. Measure out the length of the bed you just wrote down and cut it out of the lumber. Repeat this same process with the pieces of wood that will be the top and bottom of the frame.

Sand the cut edges of the lumber until smooth.

Using your hammer and nails attach one length of wood to either of the shorter pieces of wood. Repeat with the other two then combine them together into one unit.

Measure the length and width again and write down the number.

Lay the plywood flat on the floor and using your numbers and the measuring tape draw lines to the dimensions your had just written down and take the plywood to the saw and trim it.

Sand the edges of the plywood then lay it flat on top of the base you just made and nail it down.

Paint the entire frame and wait for it to dry then insert the mattress into the box.

Tips & Warnings
Try making the bed taller and making drawers along the base.
You can add a box spring by stacking the beds and measuring the thickness of them together purchasing lumber of the correct thickness you desire and having it cut to match.
When using any sort of power tool always take great safety precautions.
Always be safe when using a hammer.
When painting or using any chemical like stains you should always wear a mask or breathing respirator as well as doing your painting in a well ventilated areas.
Wear sanding you should always wear a mask and saw dust can cause some health concerns when ingested.
