If you've ever wanted something nice to have out in your backyard so that when your friends come over they'll have something to do, then a dartboard stand is the perfect solution. Building a dartboard stand does take a little bit of work, but in the end, it's well worth it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 - 8-foot 4-by-4 inch posts (treated)
  • 1 - 40-by-40 inch plyboard (treated) available in 4-by-8 inch (they can cut it where you buy it)
  • 7 - 3 1/2 inch galvanized nails
  • 2 - 80lb bags Kwikrete cement
  • 1 - 20 gallon bucket, wheelbarrow or cement mixer
  • 1 - shovel
  • 1 - Pair of safety glasses
  • 1 - tape measure
  • 1 - dartboard
Step1
Dig two 2-foot-deep holes in the ground. The centers of the holes should be 25 inches apart.
Step2
Mix one bag of concrete (follow the instructions on the bag) in the 20 gallon bucket.
Step3
Place 4-by-4 inch treated post in the hole. Make sure it is 2-feet deep into the ground. Hold it straight and pour concrete into the hole. The concrete should support the weight of the post and give you enough movement to ensure that it is straight.
Step4
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the second hole. Posts must be even with each other.
Step5
Concrete must dry for the specified time in the instructions. When the concrete is completely dry, proceed to step 6.
Step6
Measure 2 feet from the top of both posts and mark it.
Step7
Measure 5 1/2 inches from both sides of the board and mark it as well.
Step8
Position the board so that the bottom is at the 2-foot marks on the posts. At the same time, ensure that the sides of the posts are at the 5 1/2 inch marks on the board.
Step9
Use at least 2 nails for each post. Start the nails through the board and into the posts.
Step10
Measure 10 3/4 inches from the top of the board and mark it.
Step11
Measure 20 inches from the side to find the center. Re-mark your 10 3/4 inches directly centered from the side.
Step12
Hammer in a nail that sticks out enough to hang your dartboard.
Step13
Play darts!

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to play darts at night, you may hammer a nail into the bottom right hand corner of the plyboard and mount a desk lamp on it. Point the lamp to the center of the dartboard to light it up. You will probably need an extension cord to plug the desk lamp in. Don't forget to unplug the lamp and take it inside when you're done!
  • Always wear eye protection when dealing with sharp objects.
