How to Clean Different Metals Naturally

Different metals call for different cleaning methods, but you don’t have to stock your cabinet with four or five different hazardous chemicals to keep your appliances clean. You can clean silver, brass, chrome, copper and stainless steel naturally and easily with ingredients you already have. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Clean Silver Naturally

    • 1

      Apply toothpaste (not the gel kind) to an old soft-bristle toothbrush and scrub the surface.

    • 2

      Sprinkle a little baking soda onto the sudsy area you’ve created and continue brushing.

      Soak the silver in salted water in an aluminum container to rinse the toothpaste off and to magnetize tarnish off the surface.

      Rinse the silver in regular tap water and dry. Looks like new!

    Clean Other Metals Naturally

      Mix equal parts of salt and flour with a dash of vinegar and rub on brass with a sponge until clean.

      Soak a sponge with undiluted vinegar and rub chrome surfaces until clean.

      Mix a cup of hot vinegar and a 1/4 cup of lemon juice and apply to copper with a sponge until clean.

    • 8

      Make a paste with 1/2 cup of baking soda and 2 tbs. of hot water and apply to stainless steel with a sponge. Scrub and wipe clean.
