Things You'll Need:
- Self-Control
- Desire
- Discipline
- A Little Know-how

Step 1
Maintain your composure. The first effect that alcohol has on a person's demeanor is a loosening of inhibitions. To act sober when you're intoxicated you'll need to try to keep these inhibitions in the front of your mind. So act as if your actions will be broadcast via live TV to everyone you know. This will help you to appear sober when you aren't.
-
Step 2
Remain stoic. One of the hallmarks of drunkenness is incessant talking. Those who are seriously intoxicated will tell their life story to anyone who will listen. Remember that loose lips sink ships. In other words, the less you say while you're intoxicated, the better off you're apt to be, and the more sober you'll appear.
-
Step 3
Remain in one place when possible. As tempting as it may seem to hit the dance floor when you're drunk, if you want to act like you're sober then it's best to avoid anything that requires motor skills. Stay in your chair while you're intoxicated and the people around you will be much less likely to perceive that you aren't sober.
-
Step 4
Try to mitigate the effects of the alcohol. First of all, stop drinking. If you're already drunk and feel that you are making a spectacle of yourself then it's time to stop taking in alcohol. Then, drink some water and eat something to begin relieving the intoxicating effects of the alcohol and to start your long journey towards sobriety.
-
Step 5
Use reason. One of the main features of drunkenness is that it impairs one's ability to reason. This results in intoxicated individuals doing things that they don't think through thoroughly. So, when you're drunk, if you want to appear sober, really think through everything you do and try to reason out whether or not it's a good idea. This will give you at least a marginal appearance of sobriety.
