Moving into a college dorm room may be your first experience living away from home. There are many new things to learn while you are away at college; one of the first things you will experience is the thrill of getting to decorate your dorm room. When you enter that room, you will be presented with a clean white canvas on which to express yourself. For once, you will be able to decorate and organize your living space without any input from your parents. This freedom can also be overwhelming. Follow these easy steps to decorate your college dorm room and complete your home away from home.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 "bed in a bag"
  • 2 packs of reusable adhesive (such as Sticky Tack)
  • Milk crates
  • Time to put it all together
Step1
Choose a "bed in a bag" in a solid color. This versatile, money-saving option with give you all the basics with which to decorate your bed. Save the bag, and you will have an easy way to pack it up at the end of the year.
Step2
Put brightly colored milk crates under the bed to store all of your nonperishable food supplies. This will add color to your room while giving you ample space to store everything you will need while you are away from home. And it will keep your space looking organized.
Step3
Personalize your space by hanging posters on the walls. Posters can be purchased for a fraction of the money you would spend on framed art.
Step4
Apply a reusable adhesive (like Sticky Tack) to all four corners and the center of your posters to hang them on the walls in your dorm room. The last thing you want is for your poster to fall on you in the middle of the night. Using reusable adhesive will also prevent the walls from being damaged by tape or nails.
Step5
Adorn your closet door with a photo-collage of friends and family. Leave enough space to add pictures throughout the school year.
Step6
Remember to bring window treatments to your college dorm room. You can either purchase solid-color curtains or use a solid-color sheet. This will give you some privacy from prying eyes.
