Another great certification program is offered through The Parent Coaching Institute (The PCI), in affiliation with Seattle Pacific University. It's a year-long graduate-level program that thoroughly screens its applicants and graduates only those with adequate professional and academic experience.

Great advice Michelle. As a certified professional coach myself, working with parents, families, and youth, I agree with all of your points, especially about obtaining proper certification through an accredited provider like The International Coach Academy (ICA), the school I used. Do your homework and beware people or providers who offer programs that have not been accredited through governing bodies like Tthe International Coach Federation (ICF), for example. The only thing I might add would be to consider finding a mentor coach or team of coaches who have already established themselves and can help you fast-track your success.
